Ellen's Story
Throughout my adult life, I rarely thought of let alone kept in contact with anyone from Clarenceville High School. I had little curiosity about what happened to the class clowns, drunks, "brains," popular/UNpopular people, or "burn outs," to name a few of the sterotypes with which we labeled each other.
This attitude changed a few years ago when my boyfriend went to his Kentwood High School reunion. Admittedly, I felt envious: He had a connection with his past that I did not. I began to feel that I had really missed out in knowing people that I had sat next to, play sports with, sat in the stands with. What kept me from connecting with classmates? Was it my shyness or lack of stature in the pecking order of popularity? Did I not say the right things or go to the right parties? Who knows? I guess most teenagers are just trying to survive.
